What is Commercial Film Producers Europe and Why Should You Be Part of It?
Apr 21, 2009 - 01:31 PM

Who are the CFP-E?
Commercial Film Producers Europe- CFPE- is a federation of the commercials producers associations of Europe.
Who are the members of the CFPE?
The national commercial producers associations of each European country.
See details of the associations on the right.
Who are the members of the national associations?
Commercials production companies in that country. There are over 500 commercials production companies in Europe, that are part of the CFPE through their membership of their national associations.
What are commercials production companies?
They are the companies that make the commercials we see on TV and, increasingly, in other media, as moving image advertising- commercials- utilise other media.
They identify and nurture directing talent and take on the responsibility of fulfilling the potential of the script they receive from the advertising agency.
The delivery of the commercial of the commercial that achieves that and is delivered on time and on budget is their expertise.
What is the purpose of the CFPE?
The CFPE provides a forum for national producers associations to share information that will help them help the production companies they represent. It provides an opportunity to share intelligence as to opportunities for production companies and threats to the quality of the commercials production companies in Europe produce.
It joints its constituent associations in promoting professional standards in production, contracting and procurement and promoting the role of production companies in identifying and nurturing directing talent.
Production companies are a brilliant resource for client and agencies: experts who bring their ideas to life and who provide a guarantee of quality that will be delivered on time and on budget. Competing against each other on creativity and on cost, they give the client and agency a huge variety of directing styles and talent and deliver them at a fixed cost. That is a great benefit to clients and agencies who (with limited exceptions, such as weather days and force majeure) pass all the risks of the production not proceeding precisely as planned on to the production company.
Thus the free market for production is something of great benefit to agencies and production companies and something that the CFPE is dedicated to promoting.
What does the CFPE do?
Share information, in its own meetings, through communications with members and through events such as the World Producers Summit at Cannes and in Ciclope in Buenos Aires.
The WPS sees 100 production company owners from around the world, representing 30 countries, sharing information as to the new challenges they face, enabling production associations and their members around the world the opportunity to consider and plan for opportunities and threats they are likely to face.
The second major event is the Young Directors Award, which has become the most popular event outside the Cannes advertising festival and which showcases the new directing talent in the industry and the producers role in finding and developing that talent.
How do I get involved?

YDA 2012 Call for entries REGISTER NOW!
Mar 06, 2012 - 01:42 PM
Hurl your fledgling directorial career into full flight with this year’s CFP-‐E/Shots Young Director Award. The call for entries is officially open, so send in your masterpieces and get set to soar.
Directors hoping to make a name for themselves in commercials can have their work seen by a panel of industry experts, and shortlisted entries will be shown to the international advertising and production community at a super sparkly screening in Cannes at the advertising festival during the Cannes Lions week. Oh and did we mention career-‐boosting coverage in shots magazine?
This year we are introducing two new categories where some of the hottest work is happening – animation and video art. Video art encompasses all non-‐commercial, personal work not commissioned by a client. Shorter the better!
Aspiring auteurs can now submit their entries in the following categories which are divided into 2 sections, European and Non-‐European:
• Broadcast commercials
• Test commercials
• Web films
• Branded short films
• Film school commercials
• Music video
• Animation
• Video Art
One little blip on our magnificent horizon has been the international economic crisis. After much hand wringing we’ve unfortunately been forced to compromise our benevolent philosophy and charge an administrative fee of 98 euros for each entry and 48 euros for Film School entries.
The one and only submission rule is that films entered must be among the first four commercials ever made by the director the year before the award (January 1st 2011 to April 14 2012).
Entries will be accepted until April 27th 2012 and you can enter your film online. http://www.youngdirectoraward.com
